Screenshots & tutorial
This page shows some basic screenshots of QuickClip in use. Have a look at the ease of using QuickClip.
Menu
When QuickClip starts, it is placed in the Windows systray. It
displays it's icon and waits silently for your input. You can right-click the QuickClip icon to display it's menu, or double-click to bring up the editor.
The options shown are:
- Show
- Displays the editor
- Launch with Windows
- Set QuickClip to launch with Windows (checkmark) or disable this option (no checkmark)
- About...
- About QuickClip
- Check for Updates online
- Checks for newer versions
- Exit
- Quit QuickClip
Above these options the 'root' groups (or folders if you like) of your items are displayed. When you mouse over these groups they will expand and show all items and subgroups in it.
When you mouse over a group it will expand to whichever side (left/right) it
fits best. Groups containing data will display an arrow symbol, empty groups will not (as the group 'VB.Net' shows).
When you click a group, it will expand (if it hasn't done so already by hovering your mouse over it). When you click an item (snippet), the menu will disappear and it might look like nothing happened. What actually has happened is that the item's contents have been placed on your Windows Clipboard.
Now you can return to whatever you were working on and paste (CTRL-V) the snippet you just placed on your Clipboard. That's all there is to it.
In the above example the 'path' Code » Web » HTML » Blank page... has been chosen.
Main window
QuickClip's main window (or the editor) looks like this:
When you double-click QuickClip's icon in the systray, or choose 'Show' from the menu, the main window (editor) will show.
On the left side of the main editor you can see your folder structure. You can expand and collapse each group by double-clicking it, or clicking on the + or - signs. When an item is selected, the item's contents will be shown on the right side of the editor. In this example it's some source code of an empty HTML page (a template).
Also notice the application's version in the title bar and the status bar on the bottom of the window. The statusbar displays what QuickClip is doing and informs you of actions it is performing.
You can create as many groups (folders) and items (snippets) as you like, but you might want to consider not to overdo it. Remember all of QuickClip's data is stored online in your account, meaning that if your QuickClip contains a lot of data it will take a while for QuickClip to retrieve it's contents. Also a lot of groups means that you have to look longer to find the desired item which defeats the purpose of this application - Quick access to snippets.
Right-clicking a group will bring up it's context menu. The context menu
displays any available options to you; options that cannot be chosen will be disabled (greyed out).
The options are:
- Refresh
- Refreshes the contents of the QuickClip data and retrieves updates you might have made elsewhere.
- Add...
- This item expands into:
- Group
- Adds a new group
- Item
- Adds a new item (snippet)
- Rename
- Enables you to rename the selected item
- Remove
- Removes the group or item (and all contained groups and items)
- Save
- Saves any changes to your account
When an item has been selected, a textbox will appear on the right side of the window. You can place your snippet's contents in it. Changes will not immediately be sent to your account, but can be saved at any time by pressing CTRL-S or clicking the aforementioned 'Save' option.
